First, we dig a big hole.
Next is the rendering out, done with a strong mortar mix and a fibrous additive. Once this is dry it’ll hold the water as is.

You may notice some unusual features to this design,
a flat area at the far end and a couple of recesses to the right.

To give it the black colour we’ve Aqua-sealed it a couple of times, then we’ve build stone walls in the recesses. The flat area has been covered with gravel and cobbles for birds to bathe in.
This pond was designed for wildlife so we laid the grass right down to the waters edge.
A small water cascade gives a beautiful noise around the garden.
